Although a school's essential obligation is to assist children in making academic gains, challenges within a child’s social/emotional/behavioral functioning can and oftentimes does impact the ability of a child to access his/or her education. Consequently, Student Services personnel are called upon to address these concerns. This workshop will focus on providing tools to staff in how to identify potential symptoms of trauma and how to assist students in accessing their education through using elements of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT is a strongly researched, evidence-based treatment model for child and adolescent victims of abuse and trauma, with demonstrated efficacy in decreasing symptoms of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, and behavioral problems. This treatment model has since been utilized and studied successfully with youth, ages 3 to 18, who have experienced a wide range of trauma types and symptom presentations, and from various cultures and countries.
